Vitamin D can inhibit gingivitis
Researchers from Boston University, Tufts University and Brigham and Women's Hospital examined data collected during the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to compare vitamin D levels with the incidence of gingivitis. They found that people with the highest amounts of vitamin D were 20 percent less likely to bleed on gingival probing than the people who had the lowest vitamin D levels. They concluded that the anti-inflammatory effects of vitamin D may reduce susceptibility to gingival inflammation. This is good news indeed as many experts agree that most people will experience some degree of gingivitis at some point during their life so maintaining good levels of vitamin D could protect you, although unfortunately for some people they can be more genetically susceptible than others.
