FURTHER INFORMATION

Katherine Barnard
Programme Leader Katharine Barnard (MSc. Health Psychology, Southampton University) has been commissioned to develop this programme specially for the Centre. It is the first of its kind in the UK.

Research indicates that attitudes can have more impact on life expectancy than any other factor:

An amazing experiment divided 1200 people who had scored poorly on attitude tests into 2 equal-sized groups. One group of 600 was given 6, one-hour training sessions spread over a year. The other 600 were given no training. When the health of the 2 groups was checked 13 years later, 409 of the people given the training were still alive against only 97 of the control group! If you think it's too late for you to change, think again: the average age of the people starting the experiment was 58!
